Cultural Smart app workshop

In this workshop, students from the Experimental Primary School of Florina, the 5th Primary School of Florina, and our visitors from Sepolno Krajenskie cooperated and created a cultural smart app. The workshop was held at the robotics lab of the Primary School of Florina. Students formed five mixed groups and developed the app using the MIT App Inventor platform.

Their goal was to create an android application showing a map of Florina and seven different places of interest as pins. For each pin, a corresponding photo of that place from the past pops up when the pin is tapped. GPS also tracks the location of the user. Users must find each place of interest walking around Florina and take new contemporary selfie photos. The new photos will be stored in the app and will also show on the map together with the old ones.

The workshop was designed by our CS teacher Giannis Arvanitakis, and for the implementation, Mr. Sotiris Georgiou and Mrs. Elena Ikonomidou from the Poles of Educational Innovation were also present.

Structure of the workshop

In each team, there were 3-4 students, and they were provided with one laptop to design and code the application and one tablet to test the application live with the MIT AI2 Companion app. All teams were also provided with school google accounts to login into the App Inventor platform.
