Students from Sepolno Krajenskie, the 5th Primary School, and the Experimental Primary School of Florina attended a two hours workshop on how to utilize the Microbit platform to create and program a smart device that can help them guide in the forest.
Students worked in five mixed teams and were provided laptops and one Microbit for each team. They explored the onboard sensors of the Microbit (thermometer, light meter, sound meter, accelerometer, magnetometer) and how they could be useful in an outdoor activity in the forest.
The final product was a device that could act as a compass (showing the degrees from the North), a step counter, a timer, a light meter, and a thermometer. We can navigate through the menu using button A, and by pressing button B, we can select which value to show on the built-in screen. You can see the code in this link.
The workshop took place in the robotics lab of the Experimental Primary School of Florina. It was designed by our CS teacher Giannis Arvanitakis with the help of the Pole of Innovation in Education teachers Sotiris Georgiou and Elena Ikonomidou.
