Group Student Mobility in Walim – Exploring Cultural Heritage and Sustainability

From May 12th to 16th, 2025, students from the schools of our CHAIN consortium traveled to Walim, Poland, to participate in an unforgettable group mobility experience hosted by Publiczna Szkoła Podstawowa im. Polskich Noblistów w Walimiu. Local Polish students and peers from Latvia also took part, creating a vibrant and diverse learning community.

The week began with warm welcome activities, including ice-breaker games, a pantomime of a local legend, and a tour of the school. These initial activities helped students build trust and strengthen intercultural communication skills as they learned about each other’s cultures and school practices.

On the second day, students immersed themselves in an eco art and crafts workshop, using natural materials to create sustainable decorations and learning about traditional local celebrations with an ecological twist. They then explored the surrounding mountains on a nature hike, developing observation skills, ecological understanding, and teamwork.

A highlight of the week was a cultural day trip to Wrocław, where students explored key landmarks, experienced local traditions and food, and engaged in guided discussions about sustainability in urban environments. This immersive experience deepened their appreciation for cultural diversity and urban heritage.

Back in Walim, students participated in a variety of workshops and activities, including sports sessions that promoted teamwork and an educational historical walk through the town, connecting local landmarks to broader European history.

The final day celebrated the European Day, where students from Greece, Poland, and Latvia shared lessons about their local cultures and traditions through stories, music, and visual aids. This was followed by reflective evaluation activities and a memorable farewell ceremony at Grodno Castle, where students received certificates of participation and strengthened bonds of friendship and understanding.

Throughout the mobility, our students—who have been working on projects focused on cultural heritage in their own communities—had the chance to see how cultural heritage is preserved and shared in other countries. They practiced using English to communicate and collaborate, developing skills in teamwork, observation, and creative expression.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Publiczna Szkoła Podstawowa im. Polskich Noblistów w Walimiu for their warm hospitality, thoughtful program, and inspiring activities that brought together students from different countries in a shared learning journey. This experience exemplifies the power of European collaboration and intercultural dialogue, and we are excited to continue building bridges through future mobilities and projects.
