Job Shadowing in Ejea de los Caballeros: A Rich Learning Experience in Rural Spain

Between 26-30 May 2025, four teachers from the 5th Primary School of Florina, the Primary School of Vevi, and the x`Primary School of Ydrousa participated in a job shadowing mobility in CEIP Ferrer y Racaj in Ejea de los Caballeros, Spain, as part of the Cultural Heritage Art and Innovation (CHAIN) Consortium’s Erasmus+ activities.

The mobility was hosted with exceptional care and professionalism by our Spanish partners, who curated a rich and diverse program of activities. The week-long experience allowed our educators to gain firsthand insight into inclusive, student-centered educational practices across various learning environments.

🌟 Classroom Immersion in Core and Creative Subjects

Participants had the opportunity to observe daily classroom lessons in core subjects such as literacy, mathematics, and science, as well as arts and music. Through classroom observation, informal discussion with colleagues, and reflective note-taking, they gained valuable knowledge on Spanish teaching approaches, student engagement strategies, and curriculum integration.

🌿 Environmental Education at Aquagraria

A highlight of the mobility was the visit to the Aquagraria Environmental Education Centre and nearby Estanca Lake, where our teachers observed outdoor experiential learning sessions. The activities showcased how sustainability and environmental literacy are meaningfully integrated into the curriculum through field-based, hands-on experiences.

❤️ Inclusion and Student Wellbeing

Teachers also had the chance to observe how inclusion and student wellbeing are addressed in Spanish schools. Visiting classrooms and support structures dedicated to students with special educational needs, they explored early intervention practices and differentiated instruction methods that aim to create supportive, nurturing environments for all learners.

🏡 Exploring Rural Education in Sádaba

The group visited a rural school in Sádaba, gaining an understanding of multi-level teaching and community-driven education in sparsely populated areas. This was accompanied by a cultural immersion experience in nearby historical towns, helping our participants reflect on how local identity and heritage are incorporated into everyday school life.

🤝 Professional Exchange and Educational Visits

Another key element of the program was a visit to the Teacher Resources Centre in Ejea, where participants engaged in discussions on the Spanish education system, teacher training pathways, and pedagogical tools available to educators. The mobility concluded with educational city walks that involved local students, blending urban culture with active, project-based learning.

Our teachers returned from Ejea de los Caballeros feeling inspired and energized, filled with new ideas and deep appreciation for the innovative, inclusive, and environmentally conscious practices they encountered. We extend our warmest thanks to our Spanish hosts for their generosity, thoughtful planning, and collaborative spirit.

This mobility was yet another successful example of European cooperation in education, reinforcing our shared commitment to professional growth, cultural exchange, and inclusive learning for all.
